
At the Privacy by Design Conference 2025 in Tokyo, Japan, UNESCO hosted a global session addressing the growing importance of data privacy in the context of development, digital transformation, and artificial intelligence. The session focused on emerging challenges in data protection, the implications of new privacy frameworks, and the role of data governance in shaping responsible and inclusive digital societies.
Professor Lampros Stergioulas participated as an invited speaker, presenting insights from UNESCO’s international collaboration on data privacy and open data. His contribution highlighted the need for multistakeholder and cross-border cooperation to address privacy challenges while enabling innovation and sustainable development.
